From Strays to Heroes
Through the “Strays to Heroes” program we transform our rescued dogs into valuable working members of society, specializing in three distinct categories: scent detection dogs, tracking dogs, and search and rescue dogs.
Training of our heroes on four legs
In the heart of Kenya, our NGO is on a mission to rescue and rehabilitate abused and neglected dogs through our ‘Strays to Heroes’ program. These once-forgotten strays are given a second chance at life as they undergo a remarkable transformation into working dogs with extraordinary abilities.
Search and Rescue
Our search and rescue dogs at Forever Home play a crucial role in filling a significant gap in Kenya’s limited disaster response capabilities. In a country where such resources are scarce, the contribution of our rescued dogs takes on even greater importance. These remarkable animals, who have overcome adversity themselves, are now instrumental in saving lives and providing crucial support during emergencies and disasters.
Our search teams (consisting of handler and dog) play a critical role during search and rescue operations in Kenya. Our four legged heroes locate survivors, using their incredible sense of smell to detect human scent, even from a person buried deep in rubble. This allows the rescue teams to find and rescue survivors as fast as possible and therefore tenfold their chance of survival.
Detection Dogs
Our scent detection dogs undergo specialized training to develop their natural olfactory abilities, enabling them to detect a wide range of scents with precision and efficiency.
These four legged heroes play a crucial role in various fields, including wildlife conservation efforts, pest control and even private security and law enforcement operations.
With their keen sense of smell and unwavering dedication, these remarkable dogs work tirelessly to locate and detect drugs, ammunition and even pests like bed bugs!
Mantrailing
Within our “Strays to Heroes” program, mantrailing dogs emerge as extraordinary canines with unparalleled skills in scent tracking, making them indispensable assets in locating missing individuals and contributing to life-saving search-and-rescue missions.
Mantrailing dogs possess a unique and exceptional ability to follow specific human scents over varying terrains and environments with remarkable accuracy. Their keen sense of smell, estimated to be tens of thousands of times more sensitive than that of humans, allows them to detect and distinguish individual scents even in the most challenging enviorments.
In addition to their search-and-rescue roles, our mantrailing dogs are also valuable assets in private security operations and anti-poaching efforts. Their ability to track and locate individuals covertly and efficiently makes them invaluable in security operations, while their role in combating poaching activities helps protect endangered wildlife and preserve biodiversity in the region.
